The story takes place in Taiwan. Pu Yi Yong’s journey with spirits begins after his near-fatal bus accident when he inherits the family’s supernatural ability to see spirits who seek help. Through each case, Pu Yi Yong learns to face the obsession he’s been carrying since his accident.
Tseng Jing Hua, known for his role in “Your Name Engraved Herein” (2020), portrays the lead character Pu Yi Yong. Pu Yi Yong is a high school student who doesn’t perform well on exams, thus pulling the class average down. He is known to bully Cao Guang Yan, the perfect model student, and often gets into trouble due to their feud. The only thing Pu Yi Yong is good at is calligraphy, which has been passed down through generations of their family. Pu Yi Yong lives with his grandpa, mother, and father. He has the closest relationship with his father, who spoils him. After waking up from his 717-day coma, Pu Yi Yong tries to help the family earn money by doing what he does best: calligraphy. By grinding the ink which the spirits feed off of, Yi Yong alerts obsessed spirits who seek him for help.
Vivian Sung, known for her role in “Lost Romance“, portrays Chen Chu Ying, a traffic policewoman nicknamed “one-per.” She dreams of working in the investigation department but is stuck doing menial jobs. While on duty, she gets called to help with a traffic accident where she sees the horrific sight of the accident that Pu Yi Yong is in. While looking around in shock, Chu Ying finds a barely alive Pu Yi Yong.
“Oh No! Here Comes Trouble” is Peng Cian You‘s first main character role as he portrays Cao Guang Yan, a smart model student. Cao Guang Yan went to the same high school as Pu Yi Yong and fears Yi Yong due to bullying. During college, Cao Guang Yan and his father move and coincidentally become neighbors with Pu Yi Yong’s family, where he faces Yi Yong daily.

Questions and Answers: Plot of Oh No! Here Comes Trouble
heavy spoilers ahead
Why is Chen Chu Ying’s nickname “One-per”?
“One-per” stands for 1%. Chen Chu Ying got that nickname because 99% of those who take the exam to enter the investigation team pass. However, Chen Chu Ying failed to pass the exam three times and keeps falling in that 1% that doesn’t pass, receiving the name “one-per.”
Who is the old lady in black that keeps appearing with Pu Yi Yong’s grandpa?
The old lady in black is a spirit who has been seeking help from Pu Yi Yong’s grandpa for years. However, Pu Yi Yong’s grandpa consistently denies her request for assistance. In fact, when Pu Yi Yong was young, he overheard a conversation between Grandma Lian Hua and his grandpa. With a vivid memory of seeing the old lady hovering over his grandpa at the scene of the accident, Pu Yi Yong suspects that there is something suspicious about the cause of his grandpa’s unconsciousness. She is the reason why spirits are seeking out Pu Yi Yong for help.
Is there romance? Is ‘Oh No! Here Comes Trouble’ a BL?
There is no romance or BL (Boys’ Love) in “Oh No! Here Comes Trouble.” The relationship between Pu Yi Yong, Cao Guang Yan, and Chen Chu Ying is that of comrades who fight alongside each other. While the writer hints at some potential “BL” elements with Pu Yi Yong’s mother’s misunderstanding of Cao Guang Yan, it is left more to the viewer’s imagination.
Is there going to be a season 2 to ‘Oh No! Here Comes Trouble’?
The ending of “Oh No! Here Comes Trouble” concludes with Pu Yi Yong waking up and a spirit screaming out to him for help, leaving the possibility open for a Season 2.
Review: Oh No! Here Comes Trouble
“Happy things and funny things are all obsession.”
★★★★☆ 4/5
The Good
“Oh No! Here Comes Trouble” excels in seamlessly integrating comedy into the show through each character’s attitude and dialogue. Pu Yi Yong, who is hinted to lack intelligence, often finds himself in situations where he misunderstands conversations, leading to hilarious moments that will make you laugh. Cao Guang Yan, well-loved for his looks and personality, becomes timid and struggles to express himself around Pu Yi Yong, creating funny yet awkward moments. The comedy flows naturally without feeling forced, despite the show’s heavier themes.
The set-up of the main characters, particularly Pu Yi Yong, is engaging and dynamic. Pu Yi Yong is initially portrayed as a “delinquent” high school student, but the drama goes beyond this stereotype to explore the misconceptions surrounding his character and the relationships that surround him. The writer skillfully establishes a deep connection to Pu Yi Yong and his family before thrusting him into his hero’s journey. Tseng Jing Hua delivers a remarkable performance, portraying Pu Yi Yong’s conflicted emotions and internal struggles as he helps the spirits while grappling with his own grief. Through each spirit he encounters, Pu Yi Yong matures and learns valuable life lessons, aided by his newfound friendships with Cao Guang Yan and Chen Chu Ying.
Each spirit arc is well-executed and evoke genuine connection with the audience. The drama fearlessly tackles various social issues such as workplace bullying, loneliness, and abuse, while also exploring personal growth and the complexities of human emotions. The series left a lasting emotional impact, making it a truly enjoyable watch.
The Bad
Despite its strengths, “Oh No! Here Comes Trouble” falls short in some aspects. While Pu Yi Yong’s character receives substantial development, the other leads could have been given more spotlight to explore their own struggles, which would have strengthened the viewers’ positive perception of them. However, the hint of a possibility of a season two offers potential for further exploration in that regard. Another downside of “Oh No! Here Comes Trouble” is the lack of focus on Grandma Lian Hua. Despite being the catalyst for Pu Yi Yong’s hero journey and having a mysterious presence in his dreams, her character receives little attention until the story nears its end.
Conclusion
This drama has been my favorite watch of the year so far and is one that I would definitely rewatch and recommend to others as a must-watch.
